Unit Description

This unit is the core clinical unit in the second year of the Bachelor of Nursing course. A key focus of the unit is the application, consolidation and integration of first and second year theoretical nursing knowledge in acute health environments and to foster the development of clinical reasoning and sound clinical decision-making in these settings.The unit further extends student understanding of the role and professional practice of the registered nurse in Australia.Students will be required to demonstrate their ability to provide age appropriate, culturally responsive, evidence-based nursing care within the CDU second year nursing student scope of practice.This unit includes a Simulation Block (Hurdle Assessment) at a CDU campus or other approved venue and a 160 hour placement in an acute setting.

Students must successfully complete all pre-clinical and simulation block requirements to be able to undertake the clinical placement.

All placements are arranged by CDU Placement Office and require full time attendance on a rotating shift basis, including night shift.CDU cannot guarantee placement within the semester of enrolment or near the student's address.All travel and accommodation costs related to placement and any child or other care arrangements, are the responsibility of the student. Non-acceptance of arranged placement and/or placements arranged outside of semester may impact on course progression and course completion time.
