This postgraduate unit prepares pre-service teachers to teach Languages Other Than English (LOTE) subjects in junior secondary. Pre-service teachers will critically evaluate pedagogical approaches to develop learning environments that support their school students in being imaginative thinkers, globally aware citizens, and capable and confident participants in multilingual and multicultural contexts. Pre-service teachers will learn through an interactive model which will emphasise learning as a social experience leading to personal and cultural transformation. This unit will enable students to critically review contemporary issues and relevant research literature in LOTE pedagogy to develop in-depth knowledge by incorporating their links with professionals and professional associations. Pre-service teachers will critically engage their knowledge about language, culture, and language learning in teaching within diverse and inclusive classrooms.
