Unit Description

This unit is the first of three in a series on hearing rehabilitation. Through lectures and online activities, students will learn to apply patient-centered and ethical practice to work with clients in the selection of hearing devices, fitting, and follow-up. Practical skills in ear impression taking, device selection, and device fitting and verification will be included.
Students are expected to attend a 5 day face-to-face intensive as part of their learning in this subject.

Unit Learning Outcomes

1.	Apply a patient-centered, or family-centered, framework when recommending and fitting hearing devices across a range of contexts
2.	Critically evaluate information from assessment results, theoretical knowledge, research publications, and manufacturers to justify recommendation of hearing devices across a range of contexts.
3.	Critically integrate practical and theoretical knowledge in undertaking hearing device measurement and verification and apply this knowledge in applying sound clinical decision-making and troubleshooting across a range of contexts.
