Unit Description

Clinical audiologists must develop practice in response to clients' needs. This unit is designed to address the diversity within population groups graduates may come across and develop strategies to work with people in positive and strength-based approaches. The unit will cover changes in the auditory system as a function of age, healthy aging, and management of hearing loss in the aged population. Developing practice to be inclusive of hearing status (Deaf/deaf), gender, sexuality, neurodiversity, socioeconomic status, and culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds including First Nations communities will also be considered. Strategies for community collaboration to increase awareness for appropriate hearing healthcare are included.

1.	Critically adapt audiological rehabilitation programs to support healthy aging.
2.	Develop inclusive clinical to support the issues & concerns of the Deaf Community.
3.	Create a clinical practice to be inclusive and supportive of diverse identities, such as, gender, sexuality, culture, and neurodiversity.
4.	Advise on appropriate community services available for assisting in the aural rehabilitation of clients with hearing loss &/or communication disorders.
