Unit Description

This unit introduces Baudrillard's 'Simulacra and Simulation', which was used to write the Matrix Trilogy script, for the purpose of understanding the digital paradigm. With reference to key components of our digital world, such as video games, students will critically evaluate Baudrillard's argument in relation to contemporary cyber-security related activities and events.

Unit Learning Outcomes

1.	Apply a critical reading of the Matrix Trilogy to evaluate synchronicity with Baudrillard's propositions regarding our mediated reality.
2.	Critically review the value of Baudrillard's theoretical frames for understanding video games, cyber security events, and computer hacking.
3.	Critically evaluate the implications of Baudrillard's propositions around digital mediation, simulacra and simulation for the creation and use of digital artifacts.
4.	Communicate a coherent and independent exposition of knowledge and ideas in education, or across a range of discipline areas related to the digital paradigm.
