| In this unit, preservice teachers are introduced to theories and evidence from several disciplines that contribute to a critical understanding of human development. This will be applied in exploring the role of play in a childs learning, development and wellbeing. Preservice teachers will learn a range of theories, evidence-based understandings and approaches to play in diverse contexts and as a pedagogy across the curricula, including music and movement, physical education, health, and digital technologies. Preservice teachers will learn about the critical role of play-based learning in development of self-regulation, positive growth mindsets and development of conceptual thinking (e.g. science and mathematics). Preservice teachers will learn how to combine the practices of learning through play, intentional teaching and intentionality to reflect contemporary understandings of child and teacher roles in play, learning and human development. |
