Unit Description

The unit provides a critical evaluation of literature, theory and practices related to promoting positive behaviour in the classroom. On completion of this unit, participants will have developed a repertoire of techniques that support children to fully participate in educational opportunities.

Unit Learning Outcomes

1.	Define and contextualise student behavior to critically evaluate individual and systemic responses to students with challenging behavior.
2.	Demonstrate an understanding of different professional perspectives on behaviour and the way these perspectives impact on recommendations for practice.
3.	Critically examine the interaction between home, school, and community factors to consider practices that support students (and their families) in school and the community.
4.	Develop classroom and school wide strategies supporting positive behaviour including the use of building social skills and meaningful relationships in learning and teaching contexts.
5.	Critically evaluate literature related to positive behavior management, trauma and other related areas to develop knowledge regarding the identification and education of students with a range of behaviours.
