The aim of this unit is to develop preservice teachers mathematical content and pedagogical knowledge required for teaching mathematics to primary school students (Year 3-6). Considering the developmental stages of children, a range of pedagogical strategies used to engage childrens mathematical learning are taught and practiced. Preservice teachers will learn to translate and implement the research based responsive and differentiated approaches and theories to address the diversity of learners and structure effective resources to provide positive learning environments to children. Preservice teachers will also examine the content strands and proficiency strands in the Australian Curriculum: Mathematics. Assessment of mathematical and pedagogical knowledge, integrating ICT and providing feedback and reporting on learning, will also be a focus in this unit.
