Unit Description

The unit provides an understanding of energy transmission, with a particular emphasis on power systems. Students will develop the ability to identify, explain and safely resolve issues related to electrical circuits and machines. The unit covers electromechanical energy conversion, single and three phase alternating current circuits, transformers, direct current machines, synchronous machines, and induction machines. Students will develop the ability to identify, explain and safely resolve issues related to electrical circuits and machines.

Unit Learning Outcomes

1.	Apply relevant resources and analytic techniques to solving problems related to electrical circuits and machines.
2.	Apply appropriate Work Health and Safety principles and procedures to the safe operation of electrical machines.
3.	Predict and explain the performance of electrical machines under different operating conditions.
4.	Justify the selection of the type of machines suitable for various industrial and other applications.
5.	Effectively communicate ideas and principles using a range of different modes/formats.
