Unit Description

This unit takes a systems approach to current global and national environmental issues from ecological, economic, social and cultural perspectives. Issues studied include global warming, over- population, land productivity, biodiversity conservation and environmental quality. International and Australian cases are used to illustrate key principles. Although a science background is an advantage in understanding key content, the unit is suitable for students from a wide range of disciplines, since it aims to investigate and compare the approach that various disciplines have developed to interpret and address these problems.

1.	Understand some of the causes of the major global and regional environmental issues and problems, and identify some possible solutions.
2.	Evaluate the role of policy and policymaking bodies in both causing and solving environmental problems.
3.	Evaluate the role of technology in both causing and solving environmental problems.
4.	Use logical organised argument in discussion about environmental issues.
