Unit Description

In this unit, students develop skills in analysing and synthesizing creative practice through a series of class activities and research projects. The unit will present historical and contemporary overviews of art making and will develop a practice based research approach to development of creative works. Students are expected to use their imagination and originality in the execution of the program, developing skills and knowledge to explore and creatively apply design processes, promote creative thinking techniques, experimentation and reflection in order to evaluate ideas and situations in new ways and refine approaches.

Unit Learning Outcomes

1.	Apply visual art principles and techniques to effectively demonstrate manipulation of pictorial structure and control of line and tone.
2.	Evaluate the characteristics of the materials and processes to create a well-constructed drawing.
3.	Identify contractual, legal and ethical factors, that may impact on how drawing work is undertaken.
4.	Analyse historical and contemporary cultural influences relation to drawing, identifying source information that supports development of ideas for creative work.
5.	Analyse and integrate ideas generated from research.
6.	Apply critical thinking skills to self and peer evaluate creative work.
7.	Examine, revise and refine work in response to feedback.
