Unit Description

This unit provides an understanding of Indigenous land, culture, society and the environment in contemporary Australia. Students are exposed to the diversity of Indigenous people's expression of land and sea ownership and use and explore the implications this has for the ways in which government, statutory authorities and private industry engage with Indigenous Australians.

Unit Learning Outcomes

1.	Analyse the diverse ways in which Indigenous people represent and record land and sea ownership and use.
2.	Examine and critique the history of Indigenous land ownership and the impact of policy on Indigenous land issues.
3.	Identify and analyse socio-political issues that underpin contemporary societies living on Indigenous land.
4.	Assess the impact of Indigenous land and sea ownership on contemporary society.
5.	Students will be able to communicate to Indigenous people, Government and NGO's regarding Indigenous land issues to optimise their knowledge bases.
