Designed to engage students in the processes, practices and philosophies of formal Indigenous language planning, this unit covers different approaches to language planning for revitalisation and maintenance situations. Building upon important concepts of language vitality and maintenance, students will critically analyse policies, planning models and case histories from Australian and international contexts. An evaluation of language maintenance and revitalisation programs against the needs of Indigenous language communities will provide a valuable foundation for planning important language work.
