Unit Description

The aim of this unit is to analyse and evaluate concepts, authorities and ideas related to a specialist topic in law. The particular topic of law studied varies with each offering of this repeatable unit. The topic is more specialised in nature than other law electives in the regular cycle of offerings. This unit will include a comparative transnational and/or international element, where appropriate.

Unit Learning Outcomes

1.	Identify, discuss and analyse major themes and foundational concepts in contemporary legal issues.
2.	Analyse and evaluate the structure of some of the central themes in contemporary legal issues.
3.	Critically evaluate aspects of contemporary legal issues. This includes an understanding of the common law principles and engage the broader international, transnational and comparative context.
4.	Identify, discuss and critically analyse the major features, principles, legislation and case law applicable to the contemporary legal issues.
5.	Apply problem solving skills by using the relevant legal principles in providing advice on hypothetical and actual legal problems.
6.	Communicate in ways that are persuasive and effective for legal and non-legal audiences, in written and oral form, in contemporary legal issues context.
