Unit Description

This unit will develop the students' knowledge of the fundamental biochemical processes of living cells. Students will gain a detailed comprehension of the different biochemical pathways and how they relate to body functions. Additionally, students will discuss the different metabolic strategies in synthesising biomolecules, energy production, and the critical role enzymes play as biological catalysts.

1.	Describe the structure, function, and biosynthesis of the biomolecules of life- proteins, lipids, carbohydrates, and nucleic acids.
2.	Explain the essential role of enzymes as biological catalysts
3.	Demonstrate knowledge of energy production cycles of living cells
4.	Recognise the interactions and interconnectedness between biochemical processes in the human body and how abnormalities can impact health
