PHA214
This unit builds on the knowledge achieved in histology and histochemistry. It focuses on the body's response to stimuli and stressors that cause it to alter from the normal state. Students will develop an understanding of the disease concept, pathological changes that occur in tissues during disease development and the microscopic appearance of such diseased tissues. They will also become familiar with cell injury, apoptosis, atrophy, hypertrophy, necrosis, inflammation and blood disorders and benign and malignant neoplasms, within the major body systems. Students will correlate clinical and pathological findings to help identify disease and use laboratory staining techniques in investigating the occurring tissue changes.
