Unit Description

This capstone unit includes a work integrated learning experience and will allow students to apply their knowledge and skills to a real workplace. Students will undertake a professional placement where they will gain supervised training in a research, government or private laboratory affiliated with the university. Students will have the opportunity to develop an
understanding of the occupational health and safety risks, the importance of quality control, maintenance of equipmentÂ¸ validation of data and the interpretation of results. Additionally, students will develop professional workplace behaviours and interact with potential employers.

2.	Apply theoretical knowledge to data collection, testing and interpretation of results.
3.	Discuss and evaluate the organisational structure of the laboratory and the roles and accountabilities of employees.

5.	Demonstrate effective communication and an ability to work as a team member and independently.
