Nursing is one of the most trusted professions in the world due to it's standards, ethics and governance. This unit introduces contemporary nursing practice and the political, legal and ethical frameworks which regulate it. Using standards of practice and the relationship between law and ethics, students will understand how nursing practice is regulated and implications for practice as a registered nurse in the Australian healthcare system. Students will explore local, national and global challenges to patient safety in healthcare. National and global standards in healthcare will be investigated from a consumer expectation and clinical practitioner lens.
