Unit Description

In this unit students will participate in Professional Experience Placement in a health care setting to consolidate and extend knowledge, skills and attributes of registered nursing practice. Students will demonstrate person centred care and professional competencies within third year scope of practice for a registered nurse in the management of specialised complex patient care.

To meet accreditation requirements students must attend 160 clinical placement hours (allocated by the CDU Placement Office) as a part of this unit. Please refer to the College of Nursing and Midwifery website for further details on the requirements for placements and other important information.

Unit Learning Outcomes

1.	Demonstrate professional competency in accordance with the third year scope of Nursing and Midwifery board of Australia (NMBA) Registered Nurse Standards for Practice.
2.	Demonstrate culturally safe nursing assessment of physical, social, emotional and cognitive health in a clinical setting of specialised complex patient care.
3.	Demonstrate professional documentation and culturally safe communication with the interdisciplinary team in a clinical setting.
4.	Apply evidence-based practice to assess, plan, implement and evaluate person centred care in response to health variations in individuals across the lifespan.
5.	Demonstrate safety and quality in registered nursing third year scope of practice in relation to medication management and infection control.
