In this unit students will explore the occupations of adults and older adults, including exploring the purpose, meaning and benefits of work. They will also develop understanding of the diverse interests and capabilities of older adults and reflect on various challenges (physical, psychological, social) that impact participation of adults as they age.
Students will participate in Practice Education of 180 hours. During which students will, with moderate supervision: - practice authentic occupational therapy practice - implementing the occupational therapy process and competencies through a range of activities. These may include assessments, provision services to individuals and or groups in traditional or nontraditional areas of practice.
The practice education of 180 hours within this unit forms part of the 1000 hours of practice education mandated by the World Federation of Occupational Therapists and is guided by the Australian Minimum Competency Standards for New Graduate Occupational Therapists (Occupational Therapy Board of Australia 2018). The practice education will consist of simulation and work integrated learning (WIL).
This unit includes a compulsory intensive on Casuarina campus of up to 30 hours.
