This unit begins with an introduction to cell structure and some basic cellular and genetic processes and then progresses to the gross anatomy of the musculo-skeletal system and the normal physiology of nerve and muscle function, the cardiovascular system, the respiratory system, the endocrine system and reproductive system. The importance and mechanisms of these systems in maintaining homeostasis will also be discussed. The aim is to convey an integrated knowledge of the structure and function of these body systems which are necessary for subsequent units in the human biomedical sciences.
