This unit covers a range of additional foundation topics in linear algebra, calculus and vector calculus as needed for science, engineering and other disciplines. The calculus topics include: integration, methods of integration, application of integration in finding volume and surface areas of solid figures, numerical methods of integration. The linear algebra topics include: vector spaces, linear transformations, eigenvalues, eigenvectors and diagonalisation. The vector calculus topics include: directional derivative, vector fields, divergence and curl of a vector field, Green's theorem, line and surface integrals, and divergence theorem of Gauss.
Students will have opportunities to apply these concepts to solving problems related to a variety of engineering, science and other relevant contexts. Students will also make use of the MATLAB software to perform mathematical calculations.
