SPE382 - Periodisation of Training

Unit Description

This unit provides students with the knowledge and skill to develop an annual training program to build peak athletic performance for a sporting event. Students will incorporate physical assessments, physiological and psychological assessments and interventions and adjustments of intensity and volume of training to build an appropriate training program that will include strategies to balance training load and recovery to reduce the risk of overuse and over training.

Unit Learning Outcomes

1.	Explain concepts of periodisation and methodologies of training to enhance athletic performance.
2.	Develop periodised training programs for athletes that incorporate physical, technical, tactical, and psychological aspects of their sport.
3.	Calculate training load and include recovery strategies to balance training stimuli and recovery to minimise the risk of over training.
4.	Incorporate regular physical and mental assessments in the monitoring of athletes progress and amend their training program when required.
