This unit provides students with the opportunity to develop, practice and critically review social work skills and techniques for practice. In this unit students will consolidate and further develop foundational interpersonal skills for social work practice. Students will critically reflect on their communication, the social work role and context as key informers of appropriate and relevant professional communication. Students will develop and demonstrate micro-skills of reflecting content and emotion, tracking a client story and summarising. Students will develop foundational understandings of a variety of practice models and evaluate these models in the area of children and families, mental health, and for working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
This provides students with the opportunity to develop, practice and critically review social work skills and techniques for advanced practice.
This unit is offered online and includes a compulsory 5 day face to face intensive week which will provide a forum for experiential learning, and sharing practice knowledge between fellow students, community, consumers and industry.
The compulsory 5 day face to face intensive week is held at CDU Casuarina Campus and students are expected to meet all costs for travel and accommodation in relation to the intensive.
