SWK521
This unit develops advanced knowledge of theories and approaches used in contemporary social work practice. Students will critically analyse the purpose of theory, and the links to values and ethics in social work practice. Using critical reflection, students will explore the relationship between different types of theory and practice, and examine their own preferences and ideas. This unit considers current practice theory relevant for advanced social work intervention in various fields and modes of practice. There is an emphasis on integration into case management models and the legal aspects of recording information, the influences of the personal and professional self, and the development of critical reflection skills. This unit is a prerequisite for Field Education A. The unit contains a compulsory 5-day intensive teaching block.
