In this unit students design an independent research project based on a critical review of current literature. The unit provides students with advanced research skills including topic selection and question development, ethics, literature review, articulation of methodology including researcher standpoint, method and integration of theory. Each of these elements are applied to the design of a social work research project. Advanced knowledge of social research design will be developed through a critique of existing research. Students will analyze the strengths and limitations of various methods for responding to a social research questions. Students will develop the capabilities required to design and evaluate ethical research projects in the field of social work.
