Unit Description

This unit provides students with an understanding of using creative therapies including art, play, dance, drama and music with children and young people from diverse backgrounds and contexts. Students will become conversant with a variety of creative healing approaches from both a Western and Aboriginal perspective and explore the ethical application of these practices within their work and community context. The experiential component of this unit is delivered as an intensive.

1.	Identify and adapt creative therapy approaches to address the needs of children and young people within a variety of contexts.
2.	Assess the needs and strengths of children and young people holistically.
3.	Comply with the ethical, legal and professional issues involved when working with children and young people.
4.	Critically analyse and implement cultural safety principles and practices.
